How I perceived the idea of marketing having observed a small-time Shop
Year 2014, I joined Cochin University Kalamassery and to this day it has fascinated me how a small-time shop in the locally famed Abdulla’s Corner has been doing its business even to this day.
Every Year new batch of students join and another batch pass out of the prestigious university and if you ask any cusat’ian the story of “Putt Kada” as addressed by the students and people of kalamassery they may mostly have their share of pleasant memories around the shop.
Early morning 6 o clock and students ask each other “da puttu kadekku undo” meaning are you coming to puttu kada. Even to this day I do not know the name of owner because I have always addressed him as ikka or puttu ikka mostly heard among the localities.
Coming on to our topic of discussion having observed to this day I have never seen or heard the shop owner market about his shop and still has his fair share of customers to this day.
The reasoning for this phenomenon as I have observed is how the shop has captured strong emotion of its customer. The marketers of the shop have always been word of mouth among the students and localities.
The homely atmosphere has added to its attractiveness. The shop opens for a short duration about 6 hours from 6 in the morning. I believe this time of dawn has a healthy and emotional attachment to the customers.
For a morning person It is a must for him to have a healthy and satisfactory breakfast early in the morning which boost his productiveness and freshness of the day. The clean surroundings, natures beautiful presence, a group of men mainly of the older generation sharing a happy conversation with a tea in hand enraptures the emotional vibe of the customers, the presence of a mosque and the serenity surrounding it near the shop brings it to the next level.
Emphasis on Human Emotion and Interaction
From the case study above, we can conclude how human interaction and emotion played a major role in the success of his business. In this case it is a small-time business but the ideas and marketing strategy can be implemented at any levels of business. As long as Human beings are the consumers of the final product or business these play a vital role in any successful marketing strategy.
